Is hitting my girlfriend back reasonable?

she slapped me really hard across the face for breaking up with her right when her mom died because she got too attached to me and wanted to cuddle a lot, it got annoying. I then punched her in the face and it broke her nose, drawing blood. I did not intend hit her in the nose, just in the cheek.
