Will my acne scars go away as I get older?

I'm 16, and I used to have pretty bad acne, and they have left some scars. I have like 5 on my left cheek and they are the inside your skin kind. They're not that deep, but they are worrying. My mom said that as I grow my skin will heal itself and the scars will go away, but I'm skeptical. Is my mom right?
